SAT 4/13 from 1 - 7pm

In 2022, following the momentous Supreme Court ruling striking down Roe vs. Wade, we kicked off this event to stand up for reproductive healthcare rights. While we are grateful Oregon has strong protections, other states do not. Both Angie and Jess have roots in Texas so it's a natural fit to help women who do not have the same protections we do.

50% of all profits from tastings and bottle sales for the day will be donated to Planned Parenthood, America's most trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care.

The wine lineup will be:

  • 2022 Pet Matt Sparkling Rosé

  • 2023 Garageland Rosé of Pinot Noir

  • 2023 Garageland Rosé of Gamay Noir (on tap)

  • 2022 Love & Squalor Skin Contact Pinot Gris "Walks on Gilded Splinters"

In addition to this fabulous wine flight, the final few bottles of the 2022 Love & Squalor Skin Contact Gewürztraminer "A Frayed Knot" will be available for purchase. We're nearly out of stock and gearing up for our next bottling, so snag the final few bottles at our tasting room before they're gone!

RIESLINGFEIER MARCH 16th and MARCH SPIN THE BOTTLE

To celebrate our favorite grape, we are throwing a Riesling fest ("Feier" in German).

  • When? Saturday, March 16th (1pm to 7pm)

  • Where? At our tasting room. Map here.

  • Cost? Priceless. Actually, not true. It's $15/person which includes a taste of the lineup of Rieslings and the Radler. Fee is refundable with $50 wine purchase.

  • Why? Because you're awesome and Riesling is awesome, so we thought two awesomes make an incredible and that's what you'll experience. Checking my math. Bam. Correct!

This is the 3rd annual Rieslingfeier and we are featuring three of our Rieslings plus our collaboration with Great Notion brewing: Riesling Radler.

The Radler has proven, well, RAD!, over the past two years and Great Notion only make a small amount. Once it's gone, it's gone, so be sure to bring your growlers!

Speaking of growling, how is your tummy? Well, one cannot host a German fest without German food! We will have pairings of hand-made local Bratwurst, kraut and fixings on hand in case you get peckish. All the bratwurst is cooked in the Radler and grilled to order.

Lara, the head brewer at Great Notion, and our very own Jess are entering the Riesling Radler into Shebrew, a nationwide celebration of women in the craft beer and cider industry. Shebrew, which happened, March 10th, in PDX. Come in and ask Jess how it went!

Here’s what we will be pouring:
2022 Pet Matt Sekt Sparkling Dry Riesling
2018 Love & Squalor Dry Riesling Willamette Valley
2017 Love & Squalor Dry Riesling Sunnyside Vineyard
Riesling Radler

We hope to see you at the feier!

Spin the Bottle

Every month at Portland Wine Company, our guest winemaker series! Each month, we invite esteemed winemakers from across the region to share their passion, knowledge, and of course, their exceptional wines with our community of wine enthusiasts.

You'll be able to sample these wines and talk with one of their winemakers.

THE HERO (WINE) & OUR HERO (MATT)

In the recent article, "Hero Wines," from "Paul Gregutt's Northwest Wine Guide," Paul interviews Matt about Gamay Noir, and in particular, our Love & Squalor Gamay Noir.

It's a lovely read...here's a teaser:

For me, in most flights, there is one standout. Possibly a standout based strictly on flavor; maybe the one wine that offers the greatest value. Sometimes it might be a truly unusual or unique effort, or something so off the wall that it tickles my curiosity. It’s a subject that can be looked at from any number of perspectives, but today I’m focused on two particular varietal wines from two outstanding Oregon winemakers: Matt Berson’s Gamay Noir and Leah Jorgensen’s Cabernet Franc.

PET MATT RELEASE & HOLIDAY OYSTER BASH

SATURDAY DECEMBER 9 - 1PM  to 7PM
(Oysters 3PM to 6PM)

It's the annual release of our new Pet Matt "Sekt" (German for sparkling Riesling). Bottle fermented, dry, and zingy, with teeny tickling bubbles - this wine has been patiently laid down for a whole year waiting to be popped.

Nothing pairs better with oysters, so we invited Denise from @popoysterspdx to shuck the freshest oysters from Hama Hama Oyster Farm.

If oysters aren't your thing, our regular menu will also be available.

Come celebrate this release with us! See you on the 9th!

HARVEST GAMAY RELEASE PARTY OCT 14TH

Seasonal Harvest (& Gamay Release) Party on Saturday, October 14th from 1pm to 7pm!

Join us for the unveiling of our brand spanking new 2022 Love & Squalor Gamay Noir, along with an assortment of past-vintage library Gamays and other rare wines. The 2021 Gamay Noir got a great reception in the press and we are sure this one will, too. This crowd favorite usually goes to our Wine Club first, so this is a sneaky chance to get in on it early (and before it inevitably sells out)

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month (and Angie kicking the big C this year, yay!) we'll be donating a portion of the day's proceeds to the cause. Come out and show your support while enjoying great food, wine and friends.

We're all about keeping it fun around here, so bring along your furry friends for the patio, your kids, and even your bikes! It has been a crazy harvest and we miss seeing your faces, so come join the festivities. You might even be able to jump in on the harvest – we hope to see you there!

21 Sept - Love & Squalor Gamay Noir 2021
28 Sept - Love & Squalor Skin Contact "A Frayed Knot" Gewürztraminer 2022
5 & 12 Oct - Love & Squalor Riesling Reserved 2016

As you can see, each week we'll be featuring a special wine in addition to our regular flight of wines. The first week is the Garageland Pinot Noir 2021. The name is stolen from The Clash, and is an homage to all of the artisans - from musicians and painters, to vintners and food makers, who toil away behind nondescript roll-up doors.

The next 2 weeks it’s our PET MATT Sparkling Rosé of Zinfandel 2021. A play on the word Pét-Nat made by Matt, a cheeky sort, who deserves some little scribbles on his face. This one looks playful, but it is seriously good… a refreshing wonderful little fizz that tickles the tongue.

Then we have the dazzling Love & Squalor Gamay Noir 2021 that has gotten lot of press — and for good reason! We were voted one of the "20 best Northwest wines of 2022" by Seattle Times. We were praised with a gold metal from Great Northwest Wine. It got 92 Points in Wine Enthusiast, 92 points from from James Suckling, 91 points from Northwest Wine Report and 16.5/20 from Jancis Robinson, who also included us in an article about great Thanksgiving wines.

In the last week of September there’s the Love & Squalor Skin Contact "A Frayed Knot" Gewürztraminer 2022, which is truly a singular wine from the 1971 planted Sunnyside Vineyard. The color derives from a long cold skin maceration and was fermented dry in Syrah barrels. It has a floral and sweet nose, medium weight body and a nice mineral finish. We call it a rosé but technically it is really an “orange” wine (no! oranges were NOT used in the making of this wine!). This one has also gotten a little press with Wine Enthusiast, Northwest Wine Report gave it 92 points & Critics Choice and Paul Gregutt’s site also gave it 92 points and called it inspired, delicious, and unique.

In October we will be spotlighting the Love & Squalor Riesling Reserved 2016, Angie's favorite. The Riesling Reserved, formerly labeled as "Fancy Pants" Riesling, this one is all old vine sources and wild yeast, which gives it a distinctive zing. The 2016 vintage was warm and dry, which gave us a complex grape with well established acid. All of my favorite sell-known riesling aromas and palate are there, young lemon, honeysuckle and a light note of the elusive "diesel". The press thought so, too. Paul Gregutt gave it 93points, Northwest Wine Report gave it 91 & Critic's Choice and Jancis Robinson gave it 16.5/20

Savings apply to ANY three wines, so feel free to mix and match wines that you love.

COME HAVE A WINE DINNER TO HELP US SUPPORT LOCAL FARMS

JOIN US FOR DINNER WITH PLATE & PITCHFORK’s LAST YEAR

Our most beloved farm to table wine-dinner-in-a-field is having their last summer and we get to join! We are pairing up with with MAGNA KUSINA (Food & Wine Best new chef 2021 and Oregonian Restaurant of the Year 2021) August 5th.

Click the links below to make your reservation and use the code GRIT to save 20% today.
all dinner tickets here

Plate & Pitchfork dinners reinforces the connection between the farm and the food on your plate. Each adventurous evening begins with a wine tasting and appetizers before guests take a tour of the host farm. Once the tour is complete guests are seated at beautifully dressed tables for a four-course dinner prepared and served in the middle of a field by some of our region's finest chefs, each course is paired with wine from the evening’s featured winemaker.

Throughout the evening diners hear from the farmer, chefs, winemaker and often times other producers who have contributed to the meal. Dinners are served family style creating a boisterous and celebratory energy.

In honor of the 20th Anniversary Plate & Pitchfork is launching a new non-profit organization to extend the support they provide to Oregon’s food system. The Plate & Pitchfork Producer Fund is a 501c3 organization that will provide financial support to family-owned farmers, ranchers and food producers in Oregon.

Over the last 20 years, farm dinners have become abundant, but farms have not.  In fact, we continue to lose farmland at an alarming rate. The average age of farmers in Oregon is just shy of 60 years old - the highest in the country. As these farmers retire, 10 million acres of land - more than 64% of the state’s farmland - may pass to larger corporate entities or cease to be used for farming entirely. Land has become increasingly expensive and out of reach for many of the next generation of farmers and the inputs needed to grow food - from seed to labor to fuel - are also increasingly expensive.

Plate & Pitchfork is committed to not only feeding our guests, we are committed to providing our food system with the support it needs to thrive. The return on our investment is access to healthy, nutritious foods, thriving rural economies, increased employment, valuable wildlife habitat, replenished groundwater and beautiful open spaces.

PINK PARTY FUNDRAISER FOR REPRODUCTION RIGHTS

Stand up for REPRODUCTIVE healthcare rights with us on Saturday, June 3rd, from 1 - 7pm.

We kicked off this event last year in the tasting room after Roe vs. Wade was struck down. While we are grateful Oregon has strong protections, other states do not. Both Angie and Jess have roots in Texas so it's a natural fit to help women who do not have the same protections we do.

This year we will donate 50% of all profits for the day to the Lilith Fund, which offers direct financial assistance for reproductive healthcare, and provides direct financial and emotional support to Texans forced to travel to access abortions, contraceptives, counseling and gender-affirming care.

We'll be pouring our pink wines and the new Skin Contact Pinot Gris paired with food from the amazing team at The Minnow (you really need to check them out). A few of the plates they are planning are a seared PNW wild-caught albacore loin, coriander & nigella spice blend, spring herb potato salad and a Spring vegetable couscous salad with snap peas, asparagus and pickled carrot magyar pepper dressing.

The Minnow delivers meals, prepped and ready to cook, to families in Portland, OR. Our ingredients are primarily sourced from local farms and product makers.

The wine lineup will be:

  • 2022 “A Frayed Knot” Skin Contact Gewurztraminer

  • 2022 Garageland Rose of Pinot Noir

  • 2022 "Walking on Gilded Splinters" Skin Contact Pinot Gris

  • 2021 Pet Matt Pét Nat Sparkling Rosé of Zinfandel

$15/person tasting fee. Food charged separately. 50% of all profits from tastings and bottle sales go to Lilith Fund. Wine Club savings apply!
